Today we are reading Jeremiah 33:1-3 (NKJV),
Moreover, the word of the Lord came to Jeremiah a second time, while he was still shut up in the court of the prison, saying, “Thus says the Lord who made it, the Lord who formed it to establish it (the Lord is His name): ‘Call to Me, and I will answer you, and show you great and mighty things, which you do not know.’
In the amplified version, it reads in verses 2-3:
Thus says the Lord who made the earth, the Lord who formed it to establish it-the Lord is His name, Call to Me, and I will answer you, and tell you [and even show you] great and mighty things, [things which have been confined and hidden], which you do not know and understanding and cannot distinguish.
The title of this chapter is “Excellence of the Restored Nation.” Here the Israelites had been captured, and Jeremiah the prophet was locked up in prison when Babylon’s army besieged Jerusalem, in Jeremiah 32:2. The word of the Lord came to Jeremiah a second time.
That alone will preach, right?
I love that God’s word comes to us first, second, third, and more times. When we are struggling, God’s word brings life and hope to us. Hope for a future, hope in the middle of our dark season, hope that joy comes in the morning.
The hope of freedom from our chains. Hope through our Savior, Jesus Christ.
Then the God who created all things, the God who formed you and I and the world and all that is in it, that God says to us, call on me.
Call on me.
Call – cry out, address me, shout or speak out, proclaim, calling out loudly to get my attention. God is saying, Call on me. God is telling you and me to call on Him, and when we do so, He, God our creator, will answer us.
Whatever you are facing today, call on the Lord, and He will answer you.
Not only will he answer you and me, but he will show us the hidden things, the answers we didn’t know were there, the things we don’t understand. God will give us understanding and reveal His truth to us.
God has the answer for you and me in whatever we are facing today.
All we need to do is call on Him. Call on the name of the Lord, and He is here for us. Call on Jesus in your broken, troubled, dark, difficult, and uncertain times, just like when the Israelites were in captivity. Call on the Lord, and he will heal us, give us an abundance of peace and truth, restore our homes, our marriages, our lives, our families, our finances, or whatever we are struggling with.
Whatever you face today, may I encourage you to meditate on this word today, these verses, and Call on the Lord for his guidance and direction, for he is here today for you.
Also, be sure to continue reading the whole chapter of 33 because it is filled with God’s promises for those who Call on Him.
