Dear Be{You}tiful Soul,
Recently two beautiful interns at our church preached a message about the disciples and the fear they faced when they were in the boat and the storm came in full force. As I listened to them preach, powerful message by the way, the one word that has stayed with me is peace.
How do we find peace in the midst of the storms we are facing?
How do you find peace today, right now, when your heart is broken, heavy with the cares of your life.
Maybe the storm you are facing is finances, family issues, work problems, conflicts in relationships, anxiety, depression, health issues……you fill in the blank. Today let us focus on some ways to restore our peace.
First scripture says “And let the peace that comes from Christ rule in your hearts. For as members of one body you are called to live in peace. And always be thankful.” Colossians 3:15
What and who is ruling your heart today? Our heart is connected to our emotions.
Often our emotions, if allowed, can cause havoc in our lives. Our emotions are meant to be a thermometer or gauge of our hearts, but often we allow our emotions to make decisions for us. This is not what they were created for.
Where today are you allowing your emotions to determine your peace?
Peace is not an emotion, but a place to live our lives from. It’s where Jesus was when He was on the boat sleeping. He lives from the place of peace and this same peace is there for each of us today, regardless of the circumstances we are facing, peace is here for each of us.
Psalms 27:1 tells us, “The Lord is my light and my salvation, so why should I be afraid? The Lord is my fortress, protecting me from danger, so why should I tremble?”
Fear and anxiety come in to steal our peace and the place where we battle fear and anxiety is in our mind. Changing our negative self talk is vital to living in a place of peace.
Scripture tells us to take captive our thoughts (2 Cor. 10:5). You know those thoughts that lead us to have negative thoughts, and feel more depressed, anxious, defeated, alone, and hopeless? Yes, those thoughts…grab them and stop them in their tracks!
Finally, we read in Psalms 46:10 “Be still and know I am God.” Often when our peace is gone it’s because we are striving in a situation. We need to stop, rest in God’s presence, be still, and wait on Him to minister life and truth to us.
What is God speaking to your heart today about peace? Please share with us as we would love to hear from each of you!
I so enjoy the way you write, it’s so easy to follow. Today it was especially nice to be able to stop and read out loud the scriptures over myself then, continue on and repeat. Thank you Kristin for your sensitivity to our Lord.
